About The Position

Merrick is seeking an experienced mid-level Fire Protection Engineer with three to six (3-6) years of experience to join our rapidly growing High Performance Facilities team. With a focus on DoD federal government, Military, and Intelligence Community Facilities this person can be in any of our Merrick offices, or hybrid. A hybrid (work from home and office) schedule is encouraged. Typical annual pay range for this position is $88,600-$115,000. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • Engineer-in-training (EIT) or NICET Level 3 and above; PE License preferred
  • Willingness to learn; ability to work semi-independently as well as on teams; self-motivated
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering (internship experience counts)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Fire Protection Engineering for DoD federal government, Intelligence Community and Military projects
  • Moderate-to-advanced knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), International Building Codes, Life Safety Codes, and NFPA Codes and Standards
  • Have the willingness and ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain PE within 1 to 2 years is a plus
  • Domestic and international travel opportunities available

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Fire Protection Engineering subject matter expertise to our unique DoD federal government, Military, and Intelligence Community partners to include: Military Flight Simulators and Training Buildings, Intelligence Community Data Centers and Support Buildings, Satellite Reconnaissance Launch and Support Buildings, Secure (SCIF) Compartmented Buildings and Facilities.
  • Independently create and evaluate design analyses, conceptual designs, program requirements, calculations, equipment selection and layout, and system selection and layout for the following: Fire Suppression Systems (wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action systems), Fire Alarm and Mass Notification Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Smoke Management Systems, Life Safety Code and Building Code Analysis.
  • Collaborate in a design team environment, working together with engineers, designers, and project managers.
  • Take ownership of small projects or portions of larger projects.
  • Moderate level interface with mission partners, clients, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to prepare, validate, and deliver key design efforts.
