The Fire Program Specialist serves in the United States Fire Administration’s Integrated Fire Services Division, supporting national fire and emergency services data initiatives. The role focuses on outreach and data quality for the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) and historical data from the legacy National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS). The specialist engages fire departments and other stakeholders, works to improve data-product usability and participation in data-quality initiatives, and analyzes Fire/EMS data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. The position also produces formal data products and internal documents and serves as a Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) for one or more programs. The role requires regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities. Employees may be recalled at any time for emergency operations, which can involve irregular hours, duties outside the official position description, extensive travel with little notice, and temporary work at emergency sites with austere and challenging conditions. The position requires the ability to deploy to locations throughout the United States and its territories for extended periods. If selected, the employee must attend a three-week in-person training course in Emmitsburg, Maryland, within six months of onboarding; FEMA covers travel expenses.
