Under administrative direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal plans, directs, manages, supervises, coordinates, and participates in the activities and operations of the fire prevention division of the fire department including fire investigation, fire inspection, plan review, new construction inspection, and the public fire education program; provides training and coordination to fire department personnel in fire prevention; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; responds to citizens’ concerns and requests; and enforces city and state fire and safety laws. Additional duties within this rank may also include the following: Responding to fire scenes to participate in and/or conduct fire and arson investigations which includes the investigation and analysis of fire-related incidents, using a variety of forensic analysis methods, crime scene investigation techniques, and chemical analysis; and participating in or making arrests or performing other law enforcement duties.
