About The Position

Johnson Controls delivers fire protection and life safety solutions that help customers protect people, property, and operations. In this branch leadership role, you will guide installation execution, support technicians, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to quality standards. The Fire Installation Department Supervisor is a self-motivated, results-driven leader responsible for the successful execution of fire alarm and electronic installation projects within the branch. You will balance customer commitments, safety, productivity, and financial performance while leading and developing a team of installation professionals. This role serves as the installation business leader for the branch. You will oversee people, materials, schedules, and processes to make sure projects are completed in line with approved designs, applicable codes, and Johnson Controls quality standards. Success in this role depends on strong leadership, sound judgment, clear communication, and consistent follow-through in the field and with customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a fire alarm installation environment.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience, including training, team development, and performance management.
  • Strong presentation, communication, negotiation, and customer interaction skills.
  • NICET Level II Certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to 24/7 on-call support requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of hands-on field experience.
  • 5 years of fire alarm audio programming experience.
  • At least 1 year of people management or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of additional low-voltage systems.
  • Simplex 4100ES certification.
  • Simplex network certification.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the installation, programming, and commissioning of fire alarm and electronic systems per approved designs, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop installation technicians through onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Plan, schedule, supervise, and coordinate installation activities across multiple projects.
  • Partner with the sales organization during the pre-bid process to support accurate labor scoping and installation planning.
  • Maintain proactive customer communication, confirm installation schedules, and address installation, billing, or collection concerns professionally.
  • Drive revenue, profitability, and productivity by monitoring performance metrics and implementing improvement actions.
  • Ensure safety compliance through corporate EHS policies, current training and certifications, accident investigations, and job site inspections.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for after-hours customer issues, dispatch guidance, and technical problem-solving, and oversee daily fleet vehicle use assigned to the department.
  • Own outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity by setting clear expectations, following through on commitments, and ensuring work is performed responsibly.
  • Stay close to the work by confirming schedules with customers, coordinating directly with project coordinators, and removing obstacles before they affect delivery.
  • Improve every day through regular coaching, productivity reviews, and practical problem-solving that strengthens quality and throughput.
  • Win as one team by collaborating with sales, project coordinators, technicians, and customers to keep execution aligned.
  • Read and interpret building plans, electrical drawings, and specifications to support field decisions and commissioning outcomes.
  • Test installed systems, support approval from the local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), and verify compliance with corporate EHS and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide after-hours guidance that helps technicians solve issues quickly and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Support technician success through daily direction, independent judgment, and consistent feedback that reinforces quality and productivity.
