The Fire Inspector helps prevent emergencies and improve fire and life safety through property inspections, plan reviews, code enforcement, public education, and practical problem-solving. The role works directly with property owners, businesses, and community members and may offer a career path to Fire Inspector/Investigator, subject to classification requirements, completion of probation, certifications, and recommendation by the appointing authority. Participation in fire investigations is part of the role, but this is not a lead or solo fire-investigation position. The position normally has a 40-hour workweek, with occasional weekend and after-hours assignments, and is subject to recall for fire investigations and training. Field work may involve heights, smoke, water, bending, kneeling, and other physically demanding conditions. Periodic respiratory examinations, fit testing, and use of a PAPR and/or respirator are required. Employment requires a background investigation, a medical examination consistent with applicable Nevada law before appointment, and a 12-month probationary period. Licenses, certifications, and qualifications must be maintained throughout employment.
