About The Position

The Fire & Explosion Consultant is responsible for the investigation, documentation, and reporting of fire losses for various clients within the insurance industry and legal community on behalf of the company to determine the origin and cause of fire or explosion events. The Fire & Explosion Consultant shall represent the interests of the company and the client during the course of their assignments.

Requirements

  • This position must be a licensed private investigator in the state of residency if required by code or statute. (Note: This license must be maintained during the tenure of employment)
  • This position must be certified as a fire investigator by an independently accredited agency or organization or become certified by the end of their probationary status. (Note: This certification must be maintained during the tenure of employment)
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of management, members, and employee population.
  • Excellent technical skills with standard office equipment, software, and communication equipment
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Ability to articulate findings in a clear and consistent manner

  • Experience working on cross functional teams a plus but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and evaluate fire scenes to determine the area or point of origin, source of ignition, material(s) ignited, and act or omission that brought the ignition source and materials together. Assess the subsequent progression, extinguishment, and containment of the fire
  • Ensure investigations are conducted thoroughly and in compliance with company and client standards
  • Adequately document fire scenes using appropriate means (i.e., diagram, photograph, videography, Matterport 3D scanning, drone [with proper FAA certification], dictated by the scope of the investigation, so that the information is available for use in compiling a final report
  • Identify, document, collect, and preserve evidence and artifacts in accordance with accepted practices and procedures
  • Ensure proper evidence handling and chain of custody procedures are followed
  • Obtain information regarding the overall fire investigation from others through verbal communication, or other means
  • Investigate and collect information beyond the fire scene that is applicable to the investigation, the determination of fire origin and cause, and/or the assignment of responsibility if so directed
  • Present timely findings of investigations in the form of oral or written reports, as directed by the client, in a clear and concise manner. If necessary, prepare Rule 26 compliant expert reports and provide expert testimony in court or other legal proceedings.
  • Record and account for time and activities expended in furtherance of an investigation
  • Perform the duties of Evidence Technician as needed or directed
