About The Position

A leader in the Fire Suppression Systems field is looking for a qualified Project Engineer (Fire Design and system implementation) to join their dynamic team ASAP. The role can be based in Pretoria or Cape Town. The position offers challenging projects within different industries (mining, industrial, building services, etc.). The role is predominantly virtual/remote except for the onsite client work, which will require travel to client sites. Looking for someone who can hit the ground running.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering as a minimum - BTech / BEng / BSc Eng or similar related qualification
  • 2-4+ years of experience
  • Experience in drafting fire plans according to SANS 10400-T and the associated supporting SANS codes
  • Experience interfacing with the fire departments during the approval process
  • In depth understanding of fire engineering for Performance Based Designs (Rational Designs)
  • Understanding of the concept of Rational Design
  • Hands on experience with the actual engineering side of performance based engineering
  • Own transport
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel to clients when required
  • Medically fit
  • Willingness to work on mining and construction sites
  • RSA Citizens need to apply

Nice To Haves

  • Mining industry experience recommended, but not essential
  • Prior Knowledge of international sprinkler codes such as NFPA & FM Global will be advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Design and install fire suppression and detection systems in various industries
  • Fire plan preparation and submission
  • Sprinkler system design and implementation
  • Sprinkler hydraulics
  • Smoke control calculations
  • Fire detection system design
  • Rational fire design with reference to BS 7974 and the supporting PDs
  • Engineering Project Management of a fire protection system installation (Stage 5)
  • Drafting fire plans according to SANS 10400-T and the associated supporting SANS codes
  • Interfacing with the fire departments during the approval process
  • Performance Based Designs (Rational Designs) require an in depth understanding of fire engineering
  • Sprinkler hydraulic designs (pump and tank sizing)
  • Smoke control design (Fire growth and size, Heat Release Rate, smoke generation and smoke fill rate calculations) coupled with ASET and RSET evaluations
