About The Position
The City of Campbell River is recruiting for a permanent, full-time Fire Dispatcher and creating an eligibility list for future opportunities. The Fire Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls by telephone, radio, fixed alarm, and 911 communications equipment, dispatching appropriate Fire Resources as outlined in Policies and Operational Guidelines. This position operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment requiring rapid decision-making, strong and consistent situational awareness and attention to detail. The Fire Dispatcher monitors radio traffic, supports Incident Command, and coordinates with external agencies to ensure safe and effective emergency response operations.
Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 (St. John Ambulance or equivalent)
- Valid BC driver’s licence and a clean driver’s abstract
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Clear RCMP Criminal Record & Vulnerability Check
- Radio Operators Licence (Marine, Land or Aeronautical will be accepted)
- Normal Hearing - Current (within the past 3 months) satisfactory hearing audiometric test
- Typing Test – provide a recent proctored, within the last 3 months, showing a final adjusted words per minutes of no less than 40
Nice To Haves
- Experience as an Emergency Service Dispatcher
- Recognized training for Emergency Dispatchers (i.e. College/University Certificate)
- Fire or other Emergency Services training/experience
- Office and clerical experience
- Fluency in multiple languages
