About The Position

Johnson Controls is seeking a Fire Detection Service Technician to join their team. This role involves servicing and repairing electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites. The technician will diagnose problems, follow troubleshooting procedures, and work with various manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety systems. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to complete service acknowledgments and obtain customer signatures. The position also includes participation in an on-call rotation and potentially mentoring other team members. The goal is to provide customers with the highest level of service, solve building inefficiencies, and act as a trusted advisor.

Requirements

  • 4+ years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittits, and operational/product manuals.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience CCTV and IT and IP networks a plus.
  • NICET Level II certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive service calls and ascertain equipment/systems problems.
  • Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
  • Follow troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers’ Fire & Life Safety systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittits, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices.
  • Obtain customer signature upon completed service call assignment.
  • Participate in a scheduled On-call rotation.
  • Help to train or mentor others on the service team.
  • Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service related items.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair installed systems, including panel repair/reprogram, device replacement/repair, resolving low voltage circuit troubles, and system testing.
  • Organize and effectively utilize technical resources, information, material, and support.
  • Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
