This position is located onsite at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas. The Fire Alarm System Mechanic inspects, tests, maintains, repairs, and installs various types of electrical or electronic alarms, intrusion detection systems, and automated fire suppression equipment. All duties must be executed in strict accordance with manufacturer specifications, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Air Force instructions, and State of Texas operating regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding base personnel and infrastructure by ensuring the continuous operational readiness of all alarm detection systems and a diverse network of facility suppression systems.

Requirements

  • Complete Monaco Fire Alarm Systems trainings and receiving their certificate of achievement within 1 year of hire.
  • Obtain a Texas State License for Fire Alarm Systems within 2 years of hire.
  • Class C Texas driver's license.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check (NACI).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Two years of similar verifiable experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and have working knowledge of hazardous, safety, and environmental warnings.
  • General knowledge of all maintenance and construction trades.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolds, and walkways; be able to complete assigned tasks in high or confined spaces.
  • Should be licensed in Fire Suppression Systems (NFPA) within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance, and repairs on fire or security/intrusion alarm equipment, and suppression systems. The maintenance performed on these items will be in accordance with the local maintenance action sheets (MAS), Preventative Maintenance Task List (PMLTs) NFPAs, AFI's or the UFC's criteria. As a function of the recurring maintenance, all actions performed will be annotated on the necessary ISO checklist form.
  • Performs tests on fire and security alarm to ensure systems work correctly.
  • Tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter and makes needed repairs.
  • Replace components and wiring circuits.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, and replaces defective electronic equipment as required to bring fire, and security back to operational status.
  • Disassemble malfunctioning instruments and examines and tests mechanism and circuitry for defects.
  • Use common instruments such as digital multi meters, electronic thermometers, or common hand tools to reassemble instruments and tests assembly for conformance with specifications.
  • Ensures techniques, materials, and accomplishments are according to technical standards, and specifications and engineered directives.
  • Conducts various tests or experiments, which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurements.
  • Determines materials needed for repair work, and or new installations and prepares requisition.
  • Use portable radios to communicate with supervisors and service call desk.
  • Maintains accountability of personal tool issue and follows shop procedures concerning shop tool issue.
  • Maintains company vehicle cleanliness, ensures vehicle has proper maintenance was performed, and performs a daily check of the vehicle to ensure correct levels of fluids or air pressure, and inspects for damage.
  • Performs shop clean-up duties are required by shop supervisor.
  • Responsible for timely reporting of accidents, injuries, and hazardous situations.
  • Perform all other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Timely completion and accuracy of all work.
  • Working closely and harmoniously with other employees.
