About The Position

Aleut Federal is seeking a qualified Fire Alarm System Mechanic to support Base Operations and Facilities Maintenance services at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The Fire Alarm System Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, programming support, and documentation of fire alarm and fire detection systems across a large Department of Defense installation. The successful candidate will ensure all fire alarm systems remain fully operational and compliant with applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, manufacturer requirements, Army regulations, and contract performance requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Fire Alarm System Technician or Fire Alarm Mechanic.
  • Possess a Virginia Alarm Technician License or Alarm Journeyman License, or equivalent experience meeting contract requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Experience troubleshooting addressable fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 requirements and fire alarm system operation.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform system testing and calibration.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of fire alarm networking and communication systems.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple service calls and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and government representatives.
  • Must be eligible for access to Department of Defense installations.
  • Must comply with all installation security requirements.
  • Ability to successfully complete background screening and credentialing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Manufacturer certifications for: Notifier, Gamewell, Monaco, Kingfisher, Siemens.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and repair of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, manufacturer recommendations, and contract requirements.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and repair: Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP), Smoke Detectors (24V and 110V), Heat Detectors, Duct Detectors, Manual Pull Stations, Horn/Strobe Notification Devices, Flow Switches, Supervisory Devices, and Associated wiring and communication circuits.
  • Diagnose and correct system malfunctions using approved testing equipment.
  • Replace defective components and restore systems to operational status.
  • Assist with system upgrades, modifications, and installations.
  • Coordinate testing activities with the Fort Belvoir Fire Department and Government representatives.
  • Support inspections and testing activities involving fire suppression systems and integrated fire protection systems.
  • Ensure proper impairment procedures are followed when systems must be placed out of service.
  • Maintain emergency response capability for fire alarm-related service calls.
  • Support programming, configuration, and troubleshooting of fire alarm control panels.
  • Maintain manufacturer certifications as required for supported systems.
  • Assist with Notifier, Gamewell, Monaco, Kingfisher, and other installed systems as assigned.
  • Perform panel downloads, uploads, configuration verification, and programming updates when authorized.
  • Complete all inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair documentation accurately.
  • Enter required maintenance records into GFEBS and other government-approved maintenance management systems.
  • Maintain inspection reports, deficiency reports, testing records, and corrective action documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with NFPA 72, UFC Fire Protection Standards, Army Regulations, OSHA requirements, and Contract Quality Control requirements.
  • Respond to emergency and urgent service requests within required response times.
  • Coordinate work with facility occupants to minimize mission disruption.
  • Maintain professional communication with government personnel, customers, and fire department officials.
  • Support after-hours and emergency response requirements as needed.
