About The Position

Associated Fire Protection (AFP) is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to join its growing Fire Alarm division in Clayton, North Carolina. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced designer who wants to continue using their technical expertise while developing toward a future career in Fire Alarm Sales, Estimating, and Preconstruction. Initially, this individual will serve in a dual capacity, supporting Fire Alarm Design and shop drawing production while being mentored by AFP's Preconstruction team. Over time, the goal is to develop this person into a full-time role within Fire Alarm Preconstruction as AFP continues to grow the division and expand its design capabilities. AFP would ideally like to identify a NICET Level III Fire Alarm professional, although strong NICET Level II candidates with solid Fire Alarm Design experience may also be considered.

Requirements

  • Professional Fire Alarm Design experience.
  • Experience producing fire alarm shop drawings and construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of fire alarm systems and applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and construction plans.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Accountability, responsiveness, and a strong work ethic.
  • Interest in developing beyond design into estimating, sales, and preconstruction.
  • Ability to work on-site in Clayton, NC.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
  • Strong NICET Level II candidates may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Design fire alarm systems and produce accurate, code-compliant shop drawings.
  • Review architectural, electrical, and other construction documents.
  • Coordinate fire alarm designs with other building systems and trades.
  • Support permitting, revisions, and AHJ requirements.
  • Work closely with Preconstruction, Project Management, field personnel, customers, and other members of the AFP team.
  • Provide ongoing shop drawing and technical design support as the Fire Alarm division grows.
  • Develop knowledge of project estimating, scoping, proposal development, and preconstruction.
  • Train and work alongside experienced Preconstruction professionals.
  • Gradually assume additional Fire Alarm estimating and sales responsibilities.
  • Continue developing technical expertise and NICET certification.
