About The Position

The Fire Alarm Designer is responsible for coordinating onsite surveys, preparing fire alarm drawings using AutoCAD, and managing projects from inception to completion. This role involves submitting drawings, tracking review processes with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and coordinating technical documents with other disciplines. The designer will also modify processes for consistent production, assist field personnel and the sales department with system configurations and code applications, and maintain project records. Participation in design turnover and bid review meetings is also expected.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Fire Alarm system design and Auto CAD.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • APS State of TX or NICET III preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate onsite surveys with operations team.
  • Prepare fire alarm drawings using AutoCAD based on both site surveys and architectural prints.
  • Calculate, design and coordinate a project from beginning to end.
  • Submit drawings and track the review processes with multiple AHJs.
  • Coordinate technical documents with other disciplines/contractors.
  • Modify and/or create processes to ensure consistent production and document control.
  • Assist superintendents and field personnel on system and code applications.
  • Assist sales department with system configuration, take-offs, specification review and code applications for estimating projects.
  • Maintain project drawing files and records.
  • Participate in design turnover and bid review meetings.
