About The Position

BJU Press is seeking a Finishing Technician to set up, operate, and maintain various finishing and bindery machines, including a Norm perfect binder, large straight knife cutters, folders, stitchers, and mechanical binders. The role focuses on maintaining optimal quality and production standards while supporting the mission of BJU Press through efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation. The team is responsible for producing high-quality finished textbooks and related educational products.

Requirements

  • Ability to quickly learn the operation of multiple finishing or bindery machines with the ability to maintain a production-focused pace while producing quality work.
  • Ability to quickly gain familiarity with various raw materials and substrates, and their performance characteristics.
  • No color blindness, manual dexterity, ability to work with precise accuracy, and good visual acuity.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of PACE program.
  • Must be a born-again Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must agree with and affirm the Bob Jones University creed, mission, and core biblical doctrines.
  • Must be an active member of a local Bible-believing church which holds orthodox theology.

Responsibilities

  • Program (set up) and run jobs on various finishing and binding machines according to job specifications.
  • Follow shop schedule and supervisor's direction in prioritization of tasks.
  • Perform all regular and preventative maintenance as well as trouble shooting and repairs on equipment as needed.
  • Properly load, identify, and stage work in process prior to, during and after completion.
  • Record all activities in shop data collection system.
  • Provide guidance and training to less experienced staff as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
