About The Position

Hexcel is seeking a Finishing Operator for its Casa Grande, AZ, USA location. This role is responsible for processing material at the slice level after cutting, routing it through various operations such as inspection, trimming, repair, cleaning, and packing. The operator will perform critical last checks to ensure material conformance and deliver it to the appropriate plant location. This position involves working with planning, scheduling, supervisors, leads, and engineers to manage work priorities and demands. The operator will use various tools and equipment, including a rework oven, to repair and rework nonconforming materials, splice materials, and maintain tools. Responsibilities also include visual inspection of material, preparing test samples, operating saws, calculating yield, using templates for special parts, and determining proper packaging methods based on sales orders. The role requires inputting and receiving information from a computer, processing materials through blowout and wash stations, coordinating partial jobs, and ensuring accurate inventory reporting. The operator will also use a forklift, cart, or lowboy to move materials and deliver completed jobs. Additionally, the role involves inspecting and cleaning core, color-coding and tagging material, visually inspecting material quality and routing, identifying discrepant material, gathering production data, and performing shop floor transactions for inventory management.

Requirements

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
Minimum of one year experience required preferably in manufacturing.
Minimum of 6 months manufacturing experience in the Hexcel Casa Grande facility may substitute in lieu of one year experience.
Must be proficient in use of tape measure and ruler.
Basic working knowledge of computer data entry function preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Eligible candidate must be a: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, person lawfully admitted for permanent residence, temporary resident under sections 210(a) or 245(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, person admitted in refugee status, or person granted asylum.

Responsibilities

Processes material at the slice level after slices have been cut.
Routes material through Light Inspection, Trim Saw, Node Repair, Wash & Dry, Blow Out, and Packing operations.
Verifies cell conformance to specifications regarding blisters and plugging during Light Inspection and removes defects if needed.
Trims material to required tolerances using a trim saw.
Rebuilds cell nodes, bonds slices together to make new sheets, tacks defects, and reworks nonconforming material during Node Repair.
Removes excess dust from slices during Blow Out and Wash & Dry operations.
Orders correct box size, ensures slices are within tolerance, adds labels if needed, and properly packs slices in the box during Packing.
Performs a critical last check to ensure all material is conforming.
Delivers material to the proper location in the plant (Source Inspection or Shipping).
Follows written instructions and records proper information on paperwork.
Works with planning, scheduling, Supervisors, Leads, and Engineers to manage work priorities.
Uses a variety of tools and the rework oven to repair and rework nonconforming materials.
Splices prime cure and dipped sections.
Maintains and cleans tools as required.
Reworks material for density, dimension, and cell count.
Uses a light inspection table for visual inspection of material.
Identifies and repairs all discrepancies before material is moved into the source area.
Prepares and submits monthly test samples of splicing to QA for testing.
Operates and maintains a moving band and table saw.
Calculates number of pieces from each slice and maximizes yield.
Uses templates for sawing special glass parts.
Trims a variety of materials.
Visually inspects core for quality and dimensions on all slices prior to trimming.
Utilizes sales order information to determine proper packaging methods.
Uses air-powered equipment to construct boxes and pack product.
Inputs and receives information from a computer to log out test pieces, print sales orders and labels.
Processes a variety of materials through the blowout booth or slice blowout machine.
Processes a variety of glass products through the wash station and dries slices in an oven.
Works with scheduling to manage daily priorities.
Coordinates movement of partial jobs to complete orders and moves them into source or shipping.
Ensures all partial inventory reporting and material movement reporting is accurate and complete.
Uses a forklift, cart, or lowboy to move blocks from area to area.
Delivers completed jobs to shipping or source.
Inspects and cleans core in node repair.
Color-codes and tags material per routing as required.
Visually inspects the quality of the material and routing to ensure the core is in good condition and meets specifications.
Ensures that the routing is accurate prior to moving the material.
Identifies discrepant material and forwards to the Quality Review Board or node repair.
Gathers data from production work centers and inputs MRP inventory transactions.
May perform shop floor transactions to record movement of jobs in process.
Closes and performs receipt transactions.
Tracks all open orders to ensure completion to schedule and to identify and expedite manufacturing shortages.
