About The Position

Avery Dennison is seeking a Finishing and Coating Team Manager to join the Fairport Harbor Operations Team in Painesville, Ohio. The successful candidate will be an energetic leader with the ability to continuously train, develop, motivate, and coach team members. The Finishing and Coating Team Manager will provide front-line leadership and direction for all Safety, Quality, Service, Productivity, Cost Reduction, and People objectives and goals within assigned areas of the facility while meeting internal and external customer needs. As part of our team, this individual will operate under general guidance from Plant Leadership to ensure execution of daily operational efficiencies, implementation of key business objectives, and leadership of key people initiatives. The Finishing and Coating Team Manager will report directly into the Finishing/Shipping Business Unit Manager and dotted line to the Casting and Coating Business Unit Manager. This role is on a 12 hour schedule working 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on the A12 shift. This role has direct responsibility for the entire A12 Finishing Department, including the Editor as well as the A12 F2 and F3 coating teams and material handler.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent required.
  • Experience leading hourly employees with responsibility of performance management.
  • Ability to provide positive and constructive feedback, coach, support and develop a diverse group of individuals.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations systems, best practices, processes, and technology.
  • Effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to flex work schedule to interface operational and business needs.
  • Strong customer focus, communication, planning and coordination skills.
  • Ability to think ahead, anticipate problems, make decisions and take appropriate action.
  • Skilled in designing and implementing operational improvement strategies for safety, cost, quality, training, inventory and services.
  • Skilled in analyzing and drawing information for daily operational needs and improvement for the team.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment. Actively promote collaboration & teamwork and resolve conflicts.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ELS Operating Principles strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory or other leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general management duties, exercising usual authority concerning staff, performance appraisals, promotions and terminations.

  • Identify and implement operations improvement initiatives for safety, cost, quality, training, inventory, and services.

  • Promote collaboration and consistent application of policies and procedures between the finishing and coating departments.
  • Collaborate with other functional areas to resolve problems and develop improved manufacturing processes.

  • Lead 5S activities, housekeeping, and recycling programs.
  • Responsible for key operational measures within business units (service, quality, productivity, cost, safety); able to measure performance of team against performance targets and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain quality control processes to ensure products/services meet quality control standards; lead implementation of process improvements.
  • Drive improvement strategies in all key metric areas; lead production flow, staffing schedule and resources to budget and plan.
  • Lead initiatives to identify and reduce manufacturing waste and process complexity.
  • Plan schedule and lead monthly team meetings. Collaborate with other business functions to ensure appropriate topic coverage.
  • Adhere to existing standard work and adjust as required to meet department and business needs.
