About The Position

This role involves operating and training on finishing machinery. Key responsibilities include material handling, machine setup and operation, quality control, data entry, and general housekeeping. The operator will be responsible for ensuring the proper processing of cloth, maintaining quality standards, and performing routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment. This position also requires adherence to safety procedures and proper management of hazardous waste.

  • Ability to inform supervisors of malfunctions and write maintenance orders.
  • Ability to plot control charts and determine fabric disposition.
  • Ability to clean pads and dryers and inspect for defects.
  • Ability to deliver and manage finishing agents.
  • Ability to adjust machine settings for finish add-on.
  • Ability to adjust rheostats for tension.
  • Ability to adjust accumulators, dryer conditions, and speed.
  • Ability to observe material for visual defects and make adjustments.
  • Ability to record process deviations.
  • Ability to control pick line.
  • Ability to flag seams.
  • Ability to trim seams and filling tails.
  • Ability to doff, cut, and wrap rolls and inspect them.
  • Ability to obtain and submit samples and swatch tickets.
  • Ability to obtain and submit swatches to the Q.C. Lab.
  • Ability to secure and inspect tubes.
  • Ability to wrap material.
  • Ability to move material to staging area.
  • Ability to clean and rethread unit.
  • Ability to observe safe work habits and identify safety concerns.
  • Ability to load batch oven trucks and batch oven.
  • Ability to set batch oven controllers and monitor cycles.
  • Ability to perform daily inspection of hoist.
  • Ability to advise supervisors of quality problems.
  • Ability to perform general housekeeping.
  • Ability to serve on corrective action team.
  • Ability to manage hazardous waste.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain work orders and material.
  • Move material to unit from staging area.
  • Number piece tickets to ensure proper ticket goes with the right cut of cloth.
  • Creel a cut of cloth.
  • Seam new cut into previous cut.
  • Set process conditions by setup running condition sheets and adjust speed as required.
  • Key style, finish, work order number, yards, number of pieces, speed, downtime, downtime reason, and date into the computer.
  • Assist other operators with cleaning, threading, and setting process conditions.
  • Inform Finishing Supervisor or Operator 2 of major malfunctions and write maintenance shop orders for minor malfunctions.
  • Plot P.L.D., roll hardness, seam strength, etc., on control charts and determine appropriate disposition of fabric.
  • Clean pads and dryers and inspect for defects between finish changes.
  • Deliver and verify proper finish is used, maintaining proper levels and avoiding waste.
  • Adjust pad pressures and speeds to correct finish add-on when Physical Testing Lab reports out-of-spec results.
  • Adjust rheostats for tension to control width.
  • Adjust accumulators, dryer conditions, and speed within specified tolerances to eliminate creases.
  • Observe material for visual defects (pick line distortion, snags, spots, etc.) and make adjustments.
  • Obtain, record, and write process deviation sheets for deviations from standard running conditions.
  • Control pick line with operated bow and bias control.
  • Flag seams for customers as required.
  • Trim seams and filling tails.
  • Doff, cut, and wrap rolls, inspecting for soil, defects, and splits.
  • Obtain samples, complete swatch tickets, and submit to the lab or appropriate personnel.
  • Obtain, properly identify, and submit swatches to the Q.C. Lab.
  • Secure and inspect tubes for soiling or defects.
  • Wrap material in polyethylene, poly bubble, and paper as required.
  • Move material to staging area after finishing.
  • Properly clean and rethread unit as needed.
  • Observe safe work habits and identify safety concerns.
  • Load batch oven trucks and batch oven.
  • Set batch oven controllers for correct cycle, ensure proper cycle during audits, and monitor for malfunctions.
  • Perform daily inspection of hoist.
  • Advise Operator 2 or Finishing Supervisor of quality problems.
  • Perform general housekeeping to maintain cleanliness of the finishing area.
  • Serve on corrective action team as needed.
  • Properly manage hazardous waste created through finishing processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
