About The Position

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking a Fingerprint Technician I for the Police Information Check & Alarm Control Section. The successful candidate must be a team player, committed to providing exemplary customer service and able to work in a very busy and dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a two (2) year Community College Law Enforcement Diploma with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in fingerprint processing or an equivalent combination of directly related training and experience.
  • Completion of either the Edmonton Police Service Fingerprint Theories Course or other equivalent fingerprint training.
  • Experience in conducting Niche UA, CPIC and JOIN queries.
  • Exemplary interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Applicants will need to support the number of individuals fingerprinted and fingerprint comparisons done during the interview stage by providing a record.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer relations experience would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of one (1) year recent cash handling experience would be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the Criminal Code and Alberta police information check disclosure guidelines would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Taking both digital and ink fingerprints.
  • Comparing and identifying fingerprints for the purpose of verifying criminal records on police information check certificates.
  • Accurately processing police information check applications and preparing police information check certificates.
  • Processing local police record forms for the purpose of record suspensions applications.
  • Responding to local indices requests.
  • Providing excellent customer service to in-house and external customers.
  • Collecting and processing payments for police information checks, civil fingerprinting services, alarm permits and false alarm invoices.
  • Responding to customer inquiries either on the phone, in person or electronically.
  • Performing other related duties as required.
