The Department of Public Works manages 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. Our District Highway Operations Division plays a critical role in managing various programs, functions and activities throughout our province, including snow and ice control services, road maintenance and repair services, and approval of various permits. The incumbent is responsible for providing and coordinating accounting, payroll, procurement, purchasing, tender administration, reporting inventory and personnel administration services to the area. The Financial Services Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with government and departmental policies and guidelines within the area. They administer the Area’s budget, preparing expenditure statements and forecasting, providing sound advice and recommendations regarding the management of area financial resources. They provide direct supervision to the area’s accounting staff. They also reconcile accounts, oversee physical inventory count(s) and undertake completion of all year-end tasks.
