About The Position

The Financial Planning & Operations Manager serves as a key partner across the organization, supporting sound financial stewardship and informed decision making. This role works closely with program and operational leaders to manage budgets, monitor financial performance, oversee accounts payable activities, and provide budget-to-actual analysis and forecasting. The Financial Planning & Operations Manager helps ensure organizational resources, including donor and grant funding, are utilized effectively and in alignment with mission priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related experience
  • Experience overseeing financial operations
  • Demonstrated experience with accounts payable, budgeting, audits, and financial reporting
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy
  • Proficiency in financial systems and Microsoft 365 tools

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to program and department leaders.
  • Support in understanding budget performance, spending trends, and funding availability.
  • Facilitate monthly budget-to-actual reviews and provide meaningful variance analysis.
  • Promote financial literacy across the organization through training and coaching.
  • Coordinate & collaborate with external partners the annual budget development for United Way's department leaders and senior leadership.
  • Monitor spending to ensure responsible stewardship of donor, grantor, and community resources.
  • Prepare forecasts and financial models to support planning and decision-making.
  • Develop reports and dashboards that provide actionable financial insights.
  • Monitor grant, contract, and restricted fund activity to ensure alignment with donor and funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to track grant-funded expenditures and funding balances.
  • Oversee accounts payable processes to ensure timely and accurate vendor payments.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and strengthen financial processes.
  • Cross train on select processes with Donor Operations to ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate with program, fundraising, donor engagement, and operations teams.
  • Translate financial information and analysis for leadership, board committees, and external stakeholders, as needed.
  • Contribute to a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
