About The Position

An expanding business operating in a dynamic retail environment is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Financial Manager to oversee its financial function and support continued growth through the acquisition of additional outlets. The role is responsible for the overall financial management, reporting and control of the business, ensuring accurate financial information, effective cash flow management and sound financial decision-making. It requires a hands-on approach, strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage the financial implications of expansion and acquisitions. The Financial Manager will lead and develop the finance team, maintain efficient financial processes and provide reliable reporting. The ideal candidate will be commercially minded, detail-oriented and proactive, balancing sound financial control with the practical demands of a fast-growing retail operation. A hands-on approach, integrity and adaptability are essential.

Requirements

A relevant financial qualification, preferably a B.Com degree or equivalent.
Completed articles with SAICA, SAIPA or CIMA.
Proven experience in a financial management role, with responsibility for the full financial function.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and internal controls.
Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and operate effectively in a growing business.
Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with operational management.
Commercially minded, detail-oriented and proactive, with a hands-on approach, high integrity and ability to adapt to change.

Nice To Haves

A postgraduate qualification and/or CA(SA).
Experience in the retail sector.
Understanding of retail financial management, including margins, stock, cash flow and multi-outlet reporting.
Exposure to acquisitions, business integration and multi-entity reporting.

Responsibilities

Oversee the full financial function, including accounting, financial reporting, and month-end and year-end processes.
Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial performance reports.
Manage cash flow, working capital, banking relationships and financial controls.
Monitor retail trading performance, profitability, margins, operating costs and stock-related financial matters.
Ensure accurate financial reporting across multiple outlets and business entities.
Oversee reconciliations, balance sheet integrity and general ledger accuracy.
Manage tax compliance, statutory reporting and the annual audit process.
Develop and maintain effective financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
Support business expansion and acquisitions through financial due diligence, integration of newly acquired outlets and consolidation of financial information.
Provide commercial and financial insights to management to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
Lead and develop the finance team while ensuring efficient financial processes and reliable reporting.
