The Financial Counselor will conduct patient financial interviews to assist with the resolution of the patient’s account and ensure compliance with hospital financial resolution policies. This role advises and counsels patients and guarantors regarding their rights, responsibilities, and procedures for payment for care, and works with patients to identify the most appropriate account resolution. The Financial Counselor will also assist patients with financial assistance applications, complete charity processing, and assist with CICP paperwork and determination. This position acts as a liaison with other hospital departments, physician offices, and the billing department, assisting patients with financial needs and Medicaid eligibility referrals. They will recognize patients in need of financial assistance, provide charity applications or referrals to the Department of Human Services, and process charity applications. Responsibilities include verifying patient insurance coverage at the time of ER visits, collecting copays, deductibles, or deposits at discharge, verifying demographic information, arranging payment plans according to hospital policy, visiting all inpatients to explain the billing process, and offering assistance as needed.
