About The Position

Medical Oncology Associates of San Diego is a proud partner of One Oncology's network of the nation's leading oncology practices. We are looking for talented and highly-motivated individuals who demonstrate a natural desire to support the meaningful work of community oncologists and the patients we serve. This position is responsible for collections, verifying, distributing, and managing of billable service for reimbursement to the medical facility. The position performs complex duties requiring judgment and discretion, following established procedures and guidelines.

Requirements

  • 3 Years of billing experience in health care organization.
  • Familiarity with managed care and capitated contracts.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer processing functions and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to calmly and professionally resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Visual acuity to read a computer screen and paper documents; close and distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers in person and by phone.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, reach with hands, and lift and move 10 pounds on a regular basis, and up to 25 pounds occasionally; ability to sit for hours at a time.

Nice To Haves

  • College Education/Vocational Training in Medical Billing is preferred.
  • Spanish Speaking, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Eligibility and Benefit Verification of assigned patients.
  • Complete copay log on shared drive.
  • Update demographic and insurance information when necessary.
  • Determines patient financial responsibility for treatment.
  • Schedules phone appointments with all assigned patients to discuss financial estimate and patient responsibility.
  • Provides options, resources, and assists patients in resolution of patient responsibility for infusion and oral pharmacy (patient assistance, payment plans, donations, etc.)
  • Reviews supporting documentation provided by patients for accuracy and submits.
  • Research and resolve assigned patient A/R and collections.
  • Works with patients to resolve billing collection questions.
  • Research and prepare documentation for patient refunds.
  • Log on shared spreadsheet.
  • Resolve queries from RCM team in 24–48-hour timeframe.
  • Accurately detail notes in OncoEMR per note template policy.
  • Provide backup documentation to front desk personnel as needed for collections.
  • Ensure all pertinent documents are scanned into appropriate computer systems and in proper folders.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality for patients in accordance to HIPAA standards.
  • Promotes and contributes positively to inter-departmental issue resolution.
  • Effectively completes other duties and projects as assigned.
