About The Position

The Financial Counselor ensures reimbursement is secured for San Antonio from insurance, patients or other responsible parties. Also assists patients in understanding their health care insurance coverage and patient liability by determining eligibility, benefits, authorization, utilization requirements and expected reimbursement amounts. The Financial Counselor is responsible for processing patient registration information, ensuring accuracy of all data and requirements and collecting patient’s liabilities as applicable. This position is fluent in discussing patient liabilities and other programs and assistance as needed such as: postponed payments, payment plans, Medi-cal and the San Antonio Financial Assistance program.

Requirements

• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years previous work-related experience in medical billing, hospital registration, physician front office or hospital financial counseling setting with insurance verification, collections and/or billing required.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, patients/guarantors, insurance companies, physicians and all others.
• Ability to follow directions as outlined and comprehends complex issues.
• Good English speaking skills, spelling, reading and mathematical skills.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment at times of need.

• Bilingual preferred.
