About The Position

Renewal Falls Recovery Center is looking for a Financial Coordinator to join our Admissions team as we open our new treatment center in Cedar Falls. This role is an important part of the patient admission experience. The Financial Coordinator helps prospective patients and families understand the financial side of treatment, supports insurance and financial clearance, collects required payments, and works closely with Admissions and Revenue Cycle to help make the admission process as smooth and clear as possible. This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and comfortable having financial conversations with individuals and families during what may be a stressful time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare admissions, patient financial services, insurance verification, medical billing, revenue cycle, financial counseling, or a related field preferred
  • Experience working with health insurance benefits or patient financial responsibility strongly preferred
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable discussing financial information with patients and families
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential patient and financial information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic business or healthcare systems

Nice To Haves

  • Behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential treatment, or healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, billing systems, electronic health records, or admissions platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with financial clearance for prospective patients before admission
  • Review available insurance benefit and eligibility information
  • Help ensure required financial information is complete prior to admission
  • Communicate estimated deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and other anticipated patient responsibility
  • Explain financial expectations clearly and compassionately to patients and authorized family members
  • Identify financial barriers that could impact an admission and help coordinate next steps
  • Work closely with Admissions to help prevent unnecessary delays in treatment access
  • Discuss estimated patient financial responsibility prior to or during admission
  • Collect deposits, copayments, deductibles, and other required payments
  • Process and document payments accurately
  • Assist with approved payment arrangements when applicable
  • Maintain clear documentation of financial conversations, payments, and outstanding items
  • Follow up on outstanding financial requirements
  • Escalate complex financial questions or exceptions to the appropriate team
  • Collaborate with Billing, Revenue Cycle, Utilization Review, and Admissions teams
  • Help resolve missing or inconsistent insurance and financial information
  • Ensure demographic, insurance, guarantor, and financial information is accurate
  • Communicate changes that may affect billing or patient responsibility
  • Track outstanding financial clearance items through resolution
  • Help improve workflows between Admissions and Revenue Cycle as the facility grows
  • Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable point of contact for financial questions
  • Explain healthcare financial information in easy-to-understand language
  • Handle sensitive conversations with professionalism, empathy, and respect
  • Help patients and families understand available payment options and financial processes
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and financial information
  • Provide timely follow-up and exceptional customer service
