Financial Controller

DexmateFremont, CA
$120,000 - $250,000

About The Position

Dexmate is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to establish and manage its core accounting infrastructure, with a specific focus on the unique accounting needs of a robotics company. This role involves setting up scalable accounting systems, managing daily financial operations, ensuring GAAP compliance, and overseeing tax matters. Additionally, the Financial Controller will act as a strategic finance partner to leadership, supporting financial modeling, forecasting, investor relations, and advising on financial implications of business decisions. A key aspect of this role includes managing hardware and manufacturing-specific accounting, such as inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and capital expenditures. The position requires a proactive individual capable of building processes from the ground up in a high-growth startup environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally including time at a startup or high-growth company.
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager, with hands-on ownership of the full close cycle.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, including stock-based compensation accounting; experience preparing audit-ready financials.
  • Comfort operating as a "builder" — able to set up processes and systems from scratch with little existing infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and strong Excel/Google Sheets modeling skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the judgment to work closely and directly with the CEO and leadership team.
  • High integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and company information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting fundraising, investor reporting, or board materials is a strong plus.
  • Experience with inventory, COGS, and cost accounting in a hardware, manufacturing, or robotics environment is a strong plus given Dexmate's product.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Build and maintain scalable accounting systems, chart of accounts, and internal controls from the ground up.
  • Manage day-to-day accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense management.
  • Ensure accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements and maintain audit-ready records.
  • Oversee tax compliance (including R&D tax credit capture) and coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and day-to-day treasury operations.
  • Evaluate and implement finance systems (accounting software, expense platforms, payroll, procurement) to support the company's growth.
  • Stand up inventory accounting and cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) processes across raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished robots.
  • Build BOM-based product costing and track manufacturing variances and overhead allocation.
  • Manage capital expenditure tracking and fixed-asset accounting for prototyping, tooling, and lab/manufacturing equipment.
  • Partner with hardware, supply chain, and procurement teams on vendor payment terms, purchase orders, and supplier accounting.
  • Build and maintain financial models, budgets, and forecasts to support planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare board decks, investor updates, and financial reporting packages.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including data room preparation, diligence requests, and cap table management.
  • Own equity and stock-based compensation accounting (409A coordination, ISO/RSU accounting, cap table reconciliation).
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team on headcount planning, burn rate management, and runway analysis.
  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to track company and departmental financial performance.
  • Advise leadership on the financial implications of key business decisions as the company scales.
