About The Position
HHM Talent is assisting a client who is searching for a Controller in Chattanooga, TN. We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting department and oversee the organization's financial operations. The ideal candidate will be a servant leader who builds strong relationships, takes ownership of responsibilities from start to finish, and approaches challenges with curiosity. This is a full-time, fully on-site position.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for general ledger accounting, financial reporting, audits, and month-end close
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, payroll, sales tax, fixed assets, and balance-sheet reconciliations
Nice To Haves
- Experience supporting a multi-location organization is strongly preferred
- Exposure to cost accounting is preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains is helpful but not required
- Experience with a comparable ERP system, such as Sage or NetSuite, will also be considered
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and cash-management activities
- Maintain the general ledger and review journal entries for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements
- Produce journal entries, financial reports, and profit-and-loss statements by location
- Ensure all locations accurately roll up into the organization's consolidated financial results
- Take full ownership of the annual audit, including preparation, coordination, and communication with external auditors
- Process biweekly payroll; payroll tax filings are handled separately
- Prepare and file applicable sales tax returns
- Assist leadership with the annual budgeting process
- Monitor fixed assets and capital spending in relation to approved budgets
- Ensure balance-sheet accounts are properly reconciled and supported
- Provide oversight and analysis related to applicable cost-accounting activities
- Continue improving accounting operations, including the organization's accounts-payable automation initiative
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure consistent accounting practices across all locations
- Identify accounting and business-process improvements and ensure initiatives are completed successfully
- Cross-train team members to improve coverage, collaboration, and departmental effectiveness
