About The Position

The Financial Controller, North America will play a critical leadership role within the Finance team. Reporting into the CFO, NA, this role will lead all NA accounting responsibilities across Talon's North American entities. The Controller owns technical accounting, consolidated close, internal controls, and transactional accounting operations, and leads and develops the New York-centered accounting team. This role requires a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of outcomes, and can balance strategic thinking with operational excellence. You will lead and develop a high-performing team whilst driving continuous improvement across financial processes, controls, and reporting. Requirements

  • CPA Qualified strongly preferred
  • 10+ years PQE, including experience leading a multi-entity accounting function
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive and can-do attitude
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including consolidation, intercompany, and business combination / purchase accounting (ASC 805)
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience building, leading, and developing accounting teams
  • Experience implementing or modernizing internal controls and finance processes, ideally including AP automation or payment control frameworks
  • Experience in a private equity-backed environment, with exposure to sponsor reporting, strongly preferred
  • Experience integrating acquired entities preferred
  • Experience in Media sector preferred
  • Experience working across US and Canadian accounting and tax requirements preferred
  • Highly proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • NetSuite experience preferred but not essential
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Own the preparation, analysis, and integrity of financial statements across Talon's North American legal entities (US and Canada), including multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, and eliminations, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and Canadian statutory requirements.
  • Lead technical accounting matters including business combinations and purchase accounting (ASC 805), goodwill and intangibles, lease accounting (ASC 842), and revenue recognition, partnering with external auditors and advisors on complex judgments.
  • Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, delivering timely and accurate results to the CFO, NA, the Group finance function, and the private equity sponsor.
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity, with particular focus on strengthening and modernizing controls across the payment and vendor management lifecycle.
  • Provide leadership oversight of the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions in partnership with the Director of Transactional Accounting and the associated control framework.
  • Lead the integration of acquired-entity accounting operations into Talon's North American structure, including harmonization of close processes, chart of accounts, and control standards.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits across entities, ensuring timely and accurate completion, and ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate US and Canadian tax filings in partnership with external tax advisors, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Build, lead, and mentor the North American accounting team, including the Director of Transactional Accounting, Accounting Manager, and senior accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CFO, NA and senior leadership to support strategic planning, decision-making, and continued growth of the North American business.
  • Support cash flow monitoring and management in conjunction with the FP&A team, ensuring the company maintains adequate liquidity to meet its obligations.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks, ensuring the company's financial stability and growth.

Benefits

  • Dependent upon experience, the salary for this role can range from $250,000- $300,000
