About The Position

This role involves gathering financial information from patients, informing them about financial obligations for services, and assisting indigent patients in obtaining financial assistance. The specialist will collaborate with other departments and application specialists daily, process financial assistance applications, post payments, create estimates, perform account reconciliations, and generate weekly and monthly productivity reports. Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
3 years previous experience in a customer-oriented environment, patient registration, or insurance-related field.
Ability to anticipate and understand customer financial needs and document and/or relay patients' needs to appropriate personnel.
Ability to interview callers and capture details in an accurate written report.
Skill in analyzing and organizing technical data.
Strong client service orientation and influencing skills with hiring managers.

Responsibilities

Receives and processes Financial Assistance Program (FAP) requests according to LVHN policy.
Denies, approves, and pending applications, assigning a reason if applicable.
Documents all patient accounts accurately with supporting details regarding financial assistance and financial responsibility.
Maintains comprehensive knowledge of federal guidelines published by the Department of Health and Human Services to identify and determine patient eligibility for FAP.
Ensures all designated patients are screened for Medical Assistance prior to FAP approval.
Determines patient responsibility on referred accounts.
Determines patient's ability/inability to pay prior to, during, or after services are provided.
Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal interaction with patients, families, physicians, and fellow employees regarding financial assistance and patient responsibility.
Meets LVHN Auditing and compliance standards for accuracy in application processing and estimates calculations.
