About The Position

The Financial Assistant 2, Center for International Studies, provides day-to-day financial and administrative support for the Country and Area Programs (CAPs) and the Security Studies Program (SSP), including the Center for Nuclear Security Policy (CNSP). This role involves processing a high volume of financial transactions and ensuring compliance with MIT financial policies and procedures. Working under minimal supervision, the Financial Assistant 2 serves as a resource to faculty, staff, students, researchers, and vendors by responding to financial inquiries, researching and resolving transaction issues, and providing guidance on routine Institute financial processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible financial or administrative experience, preferably in a higher education or research environment.
  • Experience processing high-volume financial transactions and supporting multiple funding sources.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to research and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Institute financial policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with enterprise financial systems such as SAP or a similar ERP, Concur, and electronic financial management systems.
