About The Position

Under the direction of the Sr. Director, performs a broad range of financial management services to schools and administrative offices with primary emphasis in the areas of revenue and budget. This role is responsible for the coordination of all new procedures for the implementation of state laws relative to school financial reporting and revenue apportionment procedures. The Financial Analyst provides sound recommendations for operational and financial planning through financial review, analysis, monitoring, reconciliation, and maintenance of assigned financial accounts, programs, and activities. This position also supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration or related field
  • At least four years of increasingly responsible professional accounting and finance experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a lead capacity
  • Practices of California public school (K-12 level) business administration including Standardized Accounting Code Structure (SACS) and GASB-34 compliance issues
  • Valid California Class C driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates activities between finance and other District departments for questions and issues related to program planning and control or other financial issues as assigned.
  • Prepares or assures the preparation of a variety of accounting and other statistical and narrative reports required by Federal, State, and local agencies and management.
  • Analyzes and verifies financial operating statements, records, and procedures including cash, bank statements, collections, disbursements, accounts payable, and other assets and liabilities.
  • Confers with school administrators and other managers on the conduct and purpose of audits and desired results; may install and train personnel in new procedures and application.
  • Audits school enrollment and attendance records and record keeping methods; identifies discrepancies, recommends improvements, and assists school personnel in taking corrective action.
  • Assures that funds are budgeted, controlled, accounted for, reconciled, and audited according to acceptable accounting practices and legal requirements.
  • Reviews financial transactions to assure conformance to District, County, State, and Federal policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
  • Performs research and special projects as requested by administrators; prepares reports, recommendations, and other supporting documents as needed; conducts internal audits as assigned.
  • Operates personal computer to design and produce automated reporting and data generation for management information.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff; delegates work accordingly; assures the maintenance of comprehensive records and files related to assigned functions; and assures compliance with audit requirements and sound fiscal policies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
