About The Position

If so, we're looking for you to join our team as a Financial Analyst in the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. REDD’s goal is to accelerate innovation and work collaboratively with the APL Sectors and Mission Areas to realize technology breakthroughs and transitions that solve mission-critical problems in national security, space, and biological sciences. As a Financial Analyst in our Department Operations Group, you’ll play a critical role in managing elements of our overhead portfolio and provide strategic analysis that enables REDD’s leadership team to make game-changing decisions. You'll be joining a hard-working team that provides exceptional business operations support to our stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business area (e.g. Business Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance)
  • Have 5+ years of relevant Financial Analysis experience.
  • Possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently as a self-starter, exercising initiative and effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exhibit exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated excellence in problem recognition, follow-through, initiative, discretion, good judgment when dealing with sensitive information, and success meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills to include a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with different levels of staff with little supervision.
  • Analytical thinking and ability to recognize and correct grammatical, spelling, punctuation, numerical, and logical organizational errors.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, effectively recognizing shifting priorities and proactively managing workload to align with organizational needs.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal customers and stakeholders to play an active role in the overall financial success and operational efficiency of our overhead portfolio.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, accurate financial briefings to senior leaders with an emphasis on insight, precision, and clarity.
  • Analyze, prepare, and present comprehensive monthly financial reports in excel on the fiscal/operational health of our overhead portfolio.
  • Evaluate staff charging trends to identify risks, gaps, and optimization opportunities, and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Integrate and synthesize data from multiple systems (e.g., PEER, Data Warehouse, ADDIT, EBSS) to generate both ad-hoc and routine analyses.
  • Partner with REDD Leadership to develop labor and non-labor plans, including in depth variance analysis and reporting.
  • Develop long range forecasting models to inform REDD strategic priorities and decision-making.
