About The Position

The Finance Analyst – Revenue and Commissions is responsible for managing the end-to-end sales commission process—including calculation, accrual, and analysis—while also assisting in revenue recognition, reconciliation, and reporting initiatives. This role ensures all sales contracts and commission plans are accounted for in accordance with US GAAP (specifically ASC 606 and ASC 340-40). This role will collaborate closely with Sales Operations, Finance, and IT to improve processes, maintain internal controls, and support accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.

Requirements

  • 2–4+ years of experience in finance, accounting and commissions processing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with numbers, calculations, and deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, lookups, data validation, macros)
  • High level of discretion when handling confidential compensation information
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with Sales, Payroll, and IT
  • Experience supporting sales commissions or variable compensation
  • Proven ability to build revenue and commissions models and calculation workbooks using advanced Excel logic
  • Takes ownership of revenue reporting and commission work and follows through with accuracy and consistency.
  • Approaches discrepancies with curiosity, logic, and a problem‑solving mindset.
  • Works carefully and thoughtfully with compensation data and pay‑related details.
  • Partners easily with Payroll and Sales to keep things aligned.
  • Explains commission information in a calm, clear, and respectful way.
  • Stays organized, manages recurring cycles well, and works independently.
  • Handles sensitive compensation information with care and professionalism.
  • MS Office Suite – comfortable with Outlook and Microsoft Word
  • MS Excel – higher than average knowledge, comfortable with pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, macros and formulas
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Close vision and distance vision are necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and book monthly/quarterly commission accruals, ensuring accurate payment processing and alignment with sales plans.
  • Assist in designing and reviewing commission structures to align with company growth targets.
  • Review customer contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition for multi-element arrangements, including recurring monthly revenue and the management of deferred revenue and contract assets.
  • Calculate, record, and amortize deferred commission assets related to contract acquisition costs.
  • Lead revenue and commission-related month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining revenue reporting dashboards.
  • Design and maintain internal controls for revenue and commissions, implementing efficiencies to streamline workflows.
  • Collaborate with Sales, operations and IT to ensure commission plans and contract terms are accurately reflected in financial systems.
