About The Position

The analyst will be responsible for performing activities related to the Department’s Data Governance team, ensuring the quality of data being reported and adherence to internal controls. The analyst will have an opportunity to work across many areas of the Company and its operations, with some direct exposure to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience OR Associate’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, operations, or financial institutions
  • Comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting, and/or regulatory reporting concepts, business operations, and bank products; knowledge of the banking industry
  • High level of PC proficiency (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access; data visualization or data querying applications are a plus)
  • Detail-oriented with advanced problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with regulatory reporting and interpretation of regulatory standards
  • Experience with transaction testing, conformance testing or audit/QA programs
  • Familiarity with data governance concepts (CDEs, Lineage, Controls, Data Quality)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Financial Services Industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and execute on the Department’s Regulatory Reporting Quality Assurance (RRQA) program, which tests the completeness and accuracy of data as it flows through various M&T systems. This includes understanding and interpreting Fed instructions and FAQ documents for purposes of confirming that the sourcing and transformations of reporting elements are reasonable/appropriate according to the instructions.
  • Monitor and analyze guidance/ instructions issued by the Fed and assess impact to current process.
  • Tracking and following up on data issues identified through testing until remediation/completion.
  • Participate in the assessment of critical data fields by interpreting complex logic and investigating the potential impact of fields.
  • Participate in and execute on the Department’s data quality rule process, which seeks to identify anomalies in our source system data. This includes preparing meeting materials with the business lines for their investigation of exceptions identified, running the meetings, performing impact assessments of valid data issues confirmed by business lines, and disseminating exception reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in the eventual expansion of our data quality rule process to other regulatory reporting as well as reliance by external auditors/regulators. This includes collaborating with the Enterprise Data & Analytics and business lines to develop new rules for signoff, building out a process to re-evaluate the appropriateness of the rules executing today, refining escalation policies, and reconciling the populations for which rules execute over to ensure completeness in comparison to our General Ledger.
  • Assist with the design of other projects as applicable and occasionally lead projects of moderate scope.
  • May be required to make presentations to immediate managers or peers on subject matters in which they have expertise.
  • Provide cross training/support to team members.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities across Finance and among supported businesses.
  • Understand and adhere to department timelines and deliverables.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
