About The Position

As an integral member of the Accounts Payable (“AP”) department, the Financial Analyst II performs a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and practices. Reporting to the AP Manager and AP Lead, the Financial Analyst II performs, relatively independently, a wide range of detailed and complex accounting and advisory functions requiring professional judgement pertaining to assigned area, accounts or departments and ensures day to day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives.

Requirements

  • University degree in Bachelor of Commerce, with a concentration in Accounting or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly detail-oriented, able to maintain accuracy under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS office suites including Word and Excel
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving knowledge and skills required to draft possible solutions
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance document required upon hire

  • Experience in a post-secondary institution or not for profit environment would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Review submissions for adherence to policies and process as per the agreed terms
  • Monitor and manage over 2,000 corporate credit cards, including processing the monthly payment to the bank and performing reconciliations of the all charges to the AP department corporate cards.
  • Ensure and enforce UHN’s corporate card policy to all card users
  • Perform month-end close including preparing and posting journal entries/accruals
  • Perform Balance Sheet accounts reconciliation, investigate and resolve variances.
  • Prepare various reports or database queries from Ariba, Basware and SAP, draft commentary to emphasis key areas of variance and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Prepare the monthly reconciliation for tax filing with CRA and assessment of hospital rebate.
  • Assist departmental audits, provincial consolidation, input tax, and special projects.
  • Support core financial processes (annual budget, quarterly forecasts, monthly reporting) to build a solid and compelling financial plan that meets the expectations of Accounts Payable.
  • Perform cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested, including providing back-up support for other financial analysts including expense reimbursements and payments.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects or activities as needed
  • Providing professional and technical guidance to new or junior finance staff and ensuring that assigned work is completed in an accurate and timely manner; providing support, as required, to facilitate management decision making
