About The Position

Hydro One is seeking a Financial Analyst for Corporate Accounting. This role involves utilizing financial systems to gather and compile data for various business information, including financial statements, variance reviews, accounting analysis, and monthly consolidated financial statements. The analyst will also prepare and review financial evaluations, analyze data for consistency, and develop/maintain financial systems and controls. Additionally, the role provides guidance to staff on financial matters and develops management information systems. This is a temporary position for 24 months, with a hiring salary range of $4,102.00 - $5,860.00 Bi-weekly.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Manage general accounting activities such as journal posting, including monthly Corporate Accounting journals for environmental expenses, intercompany interest, subsidiary trial balance, and regulatory account clearing. Review and analyze journal entries for accuracy and completeness, and resolve outstanding issues. Assist in reviewing journal entries greater than $250K.
  • Manage the setup of new general ledger accounts, cost/profit centers, and company segments in SAP, including reviewing requests for reasonability and financial reporting impact. Coordinate and review the quarterly general ledger account analysis process, ensuring completeness and quality of analysis, and following up on outstanding items.
  • Review financial statements and supporting material for external reporting and external auditors. Manage the preparation of the Quarterly Reporting Package for external auditors, including reviewing variance analysis and responding to auditor questions. Respond to senior management and auditor questions on financial statements.
  • Reconcile subledger and subsystem balances in SAP to GL control accounts monthly, maintaining evidence for review. Reconcile and analyze intercompany control accounts monthly.
  • Periodically supervise temporary staff assisting with financial statement production and special projects, verifying completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide advice, guidance, recommendations, and assistance to line management on business aspects of internal controls, programs, projects, cost-benefit analysis, and cost allocation. Assist in preparing project/program documentation for approval.
  • Support regulatory processes, including rate applications, evidence preparation, responses to interrogatories, and general hearing support.
  • Support special purpose reporting, such as the annual reconciliation of WSIB filings.
  • Develop and maintain performance measures and the appropriate reporting system for monitoring and controlling them.
  • Conduct special studies and analyze current financial data, costs, and trends to meet management and Corporate Controllers division needs.
  • Ensure the reliability of Hydro One's internal financial controls by participating in the design, development, and implementation of accounting and administrative control procedures, conducting financial reviews, and following up on audit findings.
  • Provide and exchange accounting information with other subsidiary and line of business staff on matters of joint concern.
  • Participate in and/or conduct meetings and discussions on divisional and related financial procedural matters.
  • Review and coordinate the preparation of written instructions for staff on financial and accounting practices and procedures.
  • Assist in ensuring financial reporting and internal control objectives are achieved for all applicable financial processes, including the development and maintenance of internal controls policies, procedures, and practices for securities legislation certifications.
