About The Position

Motlow State Community College is seeking a part-time Financial Aid Clerk for its Moore County campus. This position, not to exceed 27 hours per week, will assist with the day-to-day operations of the financial aid office, serving as a primary contact for students and others with questions about the financial aid process. The role also involves maintaining and updating the financial aid chatbot.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality statutes and policies as they apply to FERPA and financial aid programs.
  • Maintains detailed current knowledge of federal/state/local/institutional financial aid programs, policies, procedures and funds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with students, parents, high school counselors, fellow employees, college administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills, including but not limited to ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system(s) (Banner), word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, database, and internet.
  • Ability to use an imaging system to scan, index, and retrieve financial aid data and documentation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, outside governmental and community agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to contribute to a student focused environment and knowledge of college resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years’ experience in a higher education setting.
  • Three (3) years’ experience working with financial aid.
  • Experience working with the Banner Financial Aid system and/or similar systems.
  • Ability to make presentations to diverse stakeholders including groups of staff, parents and students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of assigned financial aid program(s) including administration, processing, verifying eligibility, awarding, monitoring, and adjusting awards each semester.
  • Reconcile accounts and maintain institutional compliance as required by program proponent organizations and applicable statutes.
  • Maintain the student information system/Banner as related to assigned program(s).
  • Assist customers via email, call center escalations, phone, or walk-ins with general questions about financial aid programs, processes, eligibility, refunds, and the impact of withdrawal or over awards.
  • Elevate complex questions to Financial Aid Counselors or Financial Aid management.
  • Assist students and parents who require assistance with navigating the financial aid process or financial aid programs.
  • Maintain and update the financial aid chatbot.
  • Review documents received for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain files accurately in paper and/or electronic formats.
  • Assist with the Records Retention and Destruction of financial aid data in accordance with established statutes and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
