About The Position

Provide general financial aid counseling to students. Advises students and evaluates their eligibility for financial aid in accordance with federal and state guidelines. The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for all aspects of verifying packaging, awarding, and disbursing financial aid and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.
  • The ability to work well with others and maintain absolute confidentiality is essential.
  • Position requires a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of college students and employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree preferably in a business discipline or public administration.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities preferred.
  • Experience with financial aid information systems preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students in person, by phone and emails regarding their financial aid process and assist with completion of forms and answer questions related to the appeal process.
  • Perform verification of financial aid files as needed for self-selected students and assist students within the electronic verification process with questions, submission of documents, and completion of their financial aid file.
  • Package and adjust campus-based aid financial aid awards.
  • Review a variety of daily, weekly and monthly reports to maintain academic progress.
  • Follows up on payments to students.
  • Maintain financial records in the student database and any other related systems.
  • Serve as the Veteran Student Campus Liaison providing general information about benefits.
  • Responsible for the Federal Work-Study Program at the Michigan City Campus.
  • Assist in workshops such as College Goal Sunday, high school Financial Aid Nights, orientations and other activities on and off campus designed for new students.
  • Must not be in default on an education loan or in overpayment of a federal grant or loan.
  • Other duties logically associated with the position may also be assigned.
