About The Position

The Financial Analyst provides support to Senior Financial Analysts and the Finance Manager in overseeing a wide variety of OSU funds within the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC). This role involves monthly analysis and reconciliation of funds, preparation of monthly reports and financial statements for Faculty, the OSUCCC Finance Manager, and Senior Administrative Staff. The analyst will alert Senior Financial Analysts and the Finance Manager of discrepancies, errors, and non-compliance with fund expenditures, initiate journal transactions and deposit journals, and monitor fund balances to identify potential deficits or problems. Additionally, the role includes reviewing, reconciling, and verifying backup documentation and approvals for expenditures, performing budget-to-actual analysis for financial review and forecasting, monitoring accounting practices for compliance with audit standards, and providing information on OSU and OSUCCC departmental fiscal policies and procedures. The analyst will also collaborate with Purchasing to resolve procurement issues, utilize University systems for information management, conduct internal audits of financial transactions, maintain fiscal records, and participate in year-end closing activities. A key part of the role is working directly with OSUCCC supported Faculty to provide financial management, budgeting, fund analysis, reporting, and other financial services. The position also involves processing and performing other assigned financial and accounting duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other Business related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of a general ledger system is desirable.
  • Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Performs monthly analysis and reconciliation of funds.
  • Prepares monthly reports and provides financial statements to the Faculty, OSUCCC Finance Manager, and Senior Administrative Staff.
  • Alerts Senior Financial Analysts and Finance Manager of discrepancies, errors, and non-compliance to fund expenditures.
  • Initiates journal transactions and deposit journals.
  • Monitors fund balances to alert Senior Financial Analyst of potential deficits or problems.
  • Reviews, reconciles and verifies necessary backup documentation and that appropriate approvals have been received for all supply, service, and equipment expenditures.
  • Performs analysis of budget to actual data on monthly, quarterly, and annual bases for fund financial review and forecasting.
  • Monitors accounting practices assuring compliance with audit standards.
  • Provides information on OSU and OSUCCC departmental fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Works with Purchasing to resolve procurement issues with vendors or other departments.
  • Utilizes University’s HR, Financial, and Procurement systems to manage information.
  • Performs random sample internal audits of financial transactions including travel, pcard, purchase orders, and reimbursements.
  • Maintains fiscal records and files.
  • Participates in year-end account closing activities.
  • Works directly with the OSUCCC supported Faculty to provide support in financial management, budgeting, fund analysis, reporting and other financial services as needed.
  • Processes, performs other financial and accounting duties as assigned.
