About The Position

The Archdiocese of Chicago, a large religious organization, is seeking a Financial Accountant for its publishing division, LTP. This role is responsible for recording and monitoring financial assets and liabilities, processing payables, assisting with receivables, and providing accurate monthly and annual financial reporting relative to budget expectations. The Financial Accountant will also serve as a resource for the executive team on financial performance, budgeting, and GAAP compliance. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and enjoys accounting.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or related field, and/or minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management.
  • Understanding of GAAP and its implications on financial operations.
  • Previous exposure to purchasing and inventory control systems.
  • Experience analyzing financial reports and other measures, providing recommendations to management.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks.
  • Experience in creating financial and management reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and office skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values.

  • Knowledge of publishing industry, royalty processing, and accounts receivable.

Responsibilities

  • Record, monitor, and administer all financial assets and liabilities of the organization, ensuring adherence to GAAP.
  • Maintain corporate bank accounts, managing fund transfers and addressing reconciliation issues.
  • Lead the creation of the annual FY Budget, providing source information for projections and forecasting assigned revenue and expense items.
  • Process payables on schedule, ensuring accurate recording to the correct expense category.
  • Administer the processing and disbursement of payroll accurately, confidentially, and on time, verifying all deductions.
  • Create and maintain organizational financial statements and sales performance reports, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Prepare and process annual 1099 forms and other tax-related reports.
