About The Position

Propak Systems Ltd. is seeking a Financial Accountant to join their Finance Department at their Airdrie office. This role is responsible for completing financial reporting for a Canadian fabrication/service division, financial statements for a US subsidiary, providing insightful analysis of financial performance, and supporting operational and accounting staff. The position involves detailed work with financial statements, journal entries, revenue recognition, and sales tax returns for various Canadian provinces and US states.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recently completed in CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
  • One- or two-year diploma or certificate in business with an accounting focus.
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years general accounting experience in a similar industry or practice.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Visual, Dynamics 365 or similar ERP is an asset.
  • Experience using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Sales and Use Tax concepts is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and analysis of monthly Financial Statements for the Canadian Construction Subsidiary.
  • Preparation of journal entries related to intercompany transactions, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and other accounts.
  • Calculation of Percentage of Completion Revenue Recognition to ensure revenue is recognized according to accounting standards.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns for all entities within the Propak group across Canadian provinces and US states.
  • Completion of Use Tax calculations for equipment, materials, etc.
  • Review, monitoring, and internally auditing transactions to ensure compliance with relevant sales tax regulations and legislation.
  • Researching and providing opinions on sales tax issues for senior management.
  • Reporting and presenting financial information and analysis to management regarding division/subsidiary company performance each month.
  • Communicating and building relationships with management and operations staff to provide accounting-related support and knowledge proactively.
  • Performing other accounting-related duties as required.
