About The Position

UW Medicine Insurance Eligibility and Financial Counseling Services Team (IECS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Financial Counselor - Front Desk Patient Support. This role acts as a patient advocate, independently reviews patient concerns for appropriate action, and provides scheduling for counseling with funding options. The work supports the patient financial services and patient relations goals of the hospital. The position provides prompt and courteous insurance clearance service using excellent communication skills with internal and external customers. The team is dedicated to supporting UW Medicine where Patients Are First.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • One year of experience in a medical office setting
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patients and determine appropriate financial assistance opportunities
  • Manage all aspects of UW Medicine’s Financial Assistance front-desk processes
  • Appropriately access patient’s needs and potential funding
  • Document the progress of each case in Epic notes
  • Act as a liaison to the billing department
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights
  • Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties for authorized purposes only
