About The Position

Whop is seeking a hands-on Finance Systems Engineer to develop systems and automations that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the Accounting department. This role involves working closely with accounting process owners to understand transaction flows, redesign inefficient processes, and build reliable, production-ready solutions. The engineer will own projects from discovery through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and user adoption, ensuring strong financial controls as the company scales. While Accounting retains ownership of policy and judgments, the Finance Systems Engineer will be responsible for the systems, data flows, automation, and technical controls.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience across finance systems, business applications, ERP implementation, data engineering, or financial-process automation.
  • A demonstrated record of shipping automation that Finance or Accounting teams use in production.
  • Strong understanding of core accounting processes, including the general ledger, debits and credits, journal entries, reconciliations, record-to-report, procure-to-pay, and the monthly close.
  • Strong SQL skills and working proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or another relevant scripting language.
  • Experience designing or supporting integrations through APIs, webhooks, middleware, iPaaS platforms, or ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud ERP or general-ledger platform such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Workday Financials, Oracle, SAP, or an equivalent system.
  • Experience with testing, version control, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of internal controls, financial data integrity, access governance, and audit requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with accountants, engineers, executives, auditors, and external vendors.
  • Strong ownership and judgment: you can distinguish between a process problem, configuration problem, integration problem, and situation that genuinely requires custom software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-growth fintech, marketplace, payments, SaaS, or other high-volume transaction environment.
  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, or international accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Ramp, Stripe, Zip, Coupa, FloQast, BlackLine, Workato, Snowflake, BigQuery, or dbt.
  • Experience building controlled AI or document-processing workflows for accounting.
  • SOX, ITGC, audit-readiness, or public-company experience.
  • Experience building lightweight internal applications for Finance users.
  • CPA, CMA, systems certification, or equivalent accounting training.

Responsibilities

  • Map the close process, identify its critical path, and build a prioritized automation roadmap.
  • Automate recurring reconciliations, journal-entry support, accrual calculations, cash activity, intercompany matching, prepaid and fixed-asset schedules, and close reporting.
  • Replace spreadsheet handoffs with controlled, repeatable workflows and exception-based review.
  • Build dashboards and alerts that provide real-time visibility into close status, open items, dependencies, and risk areas.
  • Measure close-cycle time, manual effort, exception rates, rework, and post-close adjustments to demonstrate impact.
  • Own the configuration, reliability, and evolution of the core finance technology stack, including NetSuite ERP, procure-to-pay and expense, payments and billing, payroll and HRIS, close-management, and data and reporting systems.
  • Design and maintain integrations using APIs, webhooks, workflow platforms, and data pipelines.
  • Establish clear systems of record, canonical definitions, master-data standards, and ownership for critical financial data.
  • Lead implementations and enhancements from requirements gathering through solution design, testing, UAT, deployment, training, and production support.
  • Work with Engineering and Data teams when a solution requires shared infrastructure or deeper product integration.
  • Build source-to-target control totals, completeness checks, duplicate detection, data validations, and automated tie-outs into financial data flows.
  • Maintain logging, lineage, approval history, and supporting evidence so automated processes remain understandable and auditable.
  • Apply disciplined access, segregation-of-duties, change-management, testing, and release practices.
  • Monitor integrations and workflows for failures, investigate root causes, and implement durable fixes.
  • Use AI where it provides measurable value, with appropriate human review, quality gates, permissions, and audit trails.
  • Translate accounting requirements into technical designs and technical constraints into clear business tradeoffs.
  • Maintain a transparent roadmap prioritized by time saved, financial risk, control improvement, and implementation effort.
  • Create architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, process documentation, operating procedures, and support playbooks.
  • Train Finance users and build self-service capabilities where appropriate.
  • Evaluate vendors and new tools, while favoring durable improvements over unnecessary additions to the technology stack.

  • Best in class cash compensation and meaningful equity
