About The Position

FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., is seeking a Finance & Strategy intern for the Summer 2027 session, from May 17 through August 20, 2027. The position is on-site at FirstEnergy’s headquarters in Akron, Ohio. Depending on the intern’s academic discipline, department, and assigned projects, work may involve Accounting, Financial Reporting, FP&A, Internal Audit, or Risk.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university or college, majoring in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
• Must be able to work without sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to define and solve problems.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to make formal presentations to various audiences.
• Willingness to take on assignments involving unfamiliar subjects and aptitude to learn quickly.
• Sound understanding of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multitask, and meet schedules.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Motivation to work independently and productively.
• Analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively.

Responsibilities

• Compose and input journal entries and analyze general ledger accounts.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end financial reporting.
• Assist with accounting research projects.
• Assist with budgeting, financial forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Contribute to improving current work processes and supporting documentation.
• Assist with ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests.
• Collaborate with other departments within Finance & Strategy to complete projects.
