About The Position

Our Mission Is Simple: Democratize Access To Clean Energy Welcome to BlueCore Energy! We are on a relentless mission to democratize access to clean energy. By designing and building advanced floating Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) on barges right here in Long Beach, CA, we are bringing scalable, clean, and reliable power to the world. Joining our team means getting in on the ground floor of a revolution in marine small modular reactors (SMRs). If you are passionate, driven, and ready to tackle some of the most exciting challenges of our time, we want you on our team! Our Values Humility — We hold strong opinions loosely, say "I don't know," ask for help early, and let the best idea win regardless of who it came from. Inclusivity — The best engineering comes from many perspectives. We build a team where everyone is heard, and we mean it. Pragmatism — We solve the real problem in front of us, reuse what already works, and value a tested answer over an elegant one. About the Role As BlueCore's first dedicated Finance Lead, you will build the company's financial backbone from scratch and report directly to the CEO. You will own the books end to end, from every invoice and payroll run to every capital purchase for the factory and the barge, and make sure it is tracked, reconciled, and always audit-ready. You will work closely with the CEO on financial planning, reporting, and board materials, and with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to understand where the company's capital is actually going as we build out Long Beach. There is no existing finance function to inherit and no legacy systems to work around, just a blank page and a company that needs someone who treats every dollar like it is their own.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with direct ownership of a company's books, close process, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience building financial systems, controls, and processes from the ground up at an early-stage or high-growth startup.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, and the full accounting cycle.
  • Experience preparing financial diligence packages, data rooms, and investor-facing reporting.
  • A meticulous, ownership-driven approach to the numbers: you catch what others miss and treat every dollar as if it were your own.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work directly and candidly with the CEO and executive leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license or MBA.
  • Prior finance experience in a capital-intensive, highly regulated industry (nuclear, aerospace, defense, or similar).
  • Experience selecting and implementing an ERP or accounting system as a company scales.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting for physical products, including component/BOM costing and CAPEX tracking.
  • Experience working in a venture- or private equity-backed company through a period of high growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and monthly close, ensuring every transaction is accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Build the company's core financial infrastructure from the ground up: chart of accounts, internal controls, approval workflows, and close processes that scale as the company grows.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, budgets, and forecasts, including burn rate, runway, and cash flow visibility for the CEO and the board.
  • Keep the company diligence-ready at all times: a clean data room, well-organized financials, and clear documentation so BlueCore can move quickly whenever leadership needs it.
  • Partner directly with the CEO on financial reporting and board materials, translating company performance into a clear, accurate narrative.
  • Track capital and project expenditures tied to the Long Beach factory buildout and barge construction, working with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to understand cost drivers and maintain accurate cost accounting.
  • Select and implement the accounting systems and tools the company needs to scale finance operations, from accounting software to expense management to ERP integration.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax and regulatory filings, and build the financial recordkeeping practices that will support a future audit.
  • Manage vendor and contractor payments and cash management, and build cost-control mechanisms appropriate for a capital-intensive startup.

Benefits

  • On-Site Requirement: Our team works together at our Long Beach facility, right next to our barge.
  • Highly Cross-Functional: Startups move fast! You must possess the ability to seamlessly collaborate across multiple teams to rapidly solve problems and keep production moving.
  • Physical & Machinery Requirements: Because we are a hands-on startup, this role may require the ability to perform physical labor, navigate active construction/manufacturing zones, and/or operate heavy machinery and specialized manufacturing equipment as needed.
