About The Position

WM is seeking passionate finance and accounting students for a 12-week internship within WM’s Finance and Accounting groups. This internship will consist of two to three immersion experiences across departments including: Accounting, Corporate Finance, Internal Audit, Investor Relations, Treasury & Risk Management, and others. Successful candidates will be imbedded within our teams where they will have a mentor and the opportunity to network with entire departments to ensure their projects are successful. Interns will generally work as part of a team within the Finance and Accounting group, but may also have cross-functional collaboration opportunities to work with teams that include members from groups such as: Corporate Development & Innovation, Digital, Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain, People, or Sustainability. Past intern project topics have ranged from analyzing acquisition targets, analyzing profitability across our operations, and many more. Each intern’s rotations, exposure, and activities will be selected based on the Intern’s interest areas, prior professional experience and the needs of the Finance and Accounting group. The position will include opportunities for exposure to WM’s core businesses and WM’s leaders. A successful candidate must be willing and able to build relationships and reach out to other groups within WM to gather information. Interns will have the opportunity to see WM’s operations up-close while also learning why WM is considered a leading environmental and sustainability company. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to meet and get to know a number of Senior Leadership Team members, including but not limited to our Chief Financial Officer. Interns are encouraged to get to know Vice Presidents and other business leaders throughout the organization to learn what drove their career success as they consider their first-steps into their professional journey.

Requirements

  • Interns must have a High school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelor’s degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Uses problem solving skills, determines problems, and understand fundamental parts of the problem.
  • Conducts analysis as directed, and prepares and delivers insights and recommendations based on analysis.
  • Synthesizes findings and draws conclusions from analyses and makes oral/written recommendations to supervisor and/or manager.
  • Executes tasks directly related to functional projects and/or process improvements.
  • Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
