About The Position

The Finance Director oversees the financial management of Georgetown’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Chief Commercial Operations. Given the rapidly changing landscape of collegiate athletics, the Finance Director serves as a senior-level financial partner to departmental leadership, providing strategic guidance and oversight to support effective financial management and decision-making. The Finance Director provides in-depth and comprehensive financial analysis and leads the development and execution of short and long term strategic financial plans that align the departments’ goals to contribute to fiscal growth and sustainability. Drives and leads budget development and financial management for the departments, including forecasting and budgeting processes. Reviews departmental expenditures to ensure compliance with budget allocations and identifies variances against budget plans. This role should establish and guide measures for budgetary control, ensure longer-term functional objectives translate into established processes to maximize efficacy and efficiency. The position’s initial portfolio includes Athletics, sponsorship-related financial activity, and Chief Commercial Operations, with the potential to grow within the position by supporting additional units as a career development opportunity. The Finance Director oversees all planning and execution activities for the assigned units, and is primarily focused on planning and escalation of issues within their assigned cluster. The Finance Director will supervise work for the Senior Analyst, Budget & Planning, and General Analysts within their cluster. This role will focus on planning and analysis, internal controls, and approvals of critical operational activities to ensure congruence with budget and projections. The Finance Director will provide financial leadership across Athletics, sponsorship, Chief Commercial Operations, and other assigned areas as portfolios evolve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Finance, Accounting, Business Administration)
  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to develop complex spreadsheets and models for budget variance analysis, revenue and expense forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Building and utilizing financial reports; intermediate to advanced business analytics skills required
  • Some experience with complex financial and longitudinal planning, and financial forecasting
  • Ability to support establishment and management of budgets of at least $50M and up to $100M+
  • Prior experience working with complex teams
  • Strong communications and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with Athletics leadership, university stakeholders, coaches, and external partners to support effective financial management and operational coordination.
  • Ability to engage in an efficient and professional manner
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; proficiency managing and prioritizing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work with variety of financial systems

Nice To Haves

  • Professional accounting qualification is desirable
  • Master's Degree preferable
  • Prior experience preferred in Workday, Adaptive
