About The Position

The Finance Director will provide leadership and oversight for the financial operations of the Quillen College of Medicine. This role involves partnering with senior administrators to develop budgets, analyze financial performance, ensure compliance, and support sound fiscal decision-making. The position works closely with the Assistant Dean, Associate Dean, department leaders, and staff to advance the College's academic, research, and clinical missions through effective financial stewardship and operational excellence. Quillen College of Medicine is a nationally recognized institution focused on healthcare, education, and research, particularly in the Appalachian region. It is recognized for its commitment to service and innovation, ranked highly for graduates serving underserved communities and designated a Tier 1 Medical School for Primary Care. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive financial management experience.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of financial management principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and analysis in higher education or academic medicine.
  • Knowledge of applicable university, state, and federal regulations, governing board requirements, and accreditation standards (e.g., LCME, AAMC, ACGME).
  • Knowledge of grant and research administration, internal controls, auditing standards, and financial compliance practices.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, financial modeling, resource allocation, and clinical finance operations.
  • Skill in advanced financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and use of financial systems and data tools.
  • Skill in leadership, staff supervision, mentoring, and team development.
  • Skill in strategic planning, problem-solving, decision-making, and project management.
  • Skill in effective communication and presentation of complex financial information.
  • Skill in collaboration and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make sound, data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, regulations, and contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification, such as CPA or CMA
  • Experience in academic medicine, higher education, or healthcare finance.
  • Experience with grant and research financial management.
