About The Position

Serves as the top financial official and Treasurer of Eagle Brook Church, responsible for the overall administration of the Finance team. Supports and guides financial decision making for the Executive Leadership Team, viewing financial stewardship as a ministry. Partners with pastoral leadership to align resources with the church's mission and vision. Drives continuous improvement initiatives, programs, and processes while adhering to financial and legal requirements. Leads the Finance team to provide excellent service, insightful reporting, and support to Eagle Brook Church staff. Effectively manages budgets, forecasts financial trends, analyzes data for resource allocation and risk determination, and develops multi-year financial models for long-range ministry planning. Leads, selects, and develops the Finance staff and manages the Finance operating budget. Reports to the Executive Director of Operations.

Requirements

  • Follower of Jesus and aligns with Eagle Brook Church’s 9 core beliefs
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in a finance or accounting field
  • Experience with fund accounting and nonprofit GAAP (ASC 958), or equivalent experience managing restricted funds, multi-entity accounting, or grant compliance in a complex organization
  • Expertise with financial systems and in Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Expert comprehension of business processes, strategies and risks
  • Professional experience in partnering and collaborating with leaders, managers and teams
  • Professional experience in a large nonprofit and/or ministry environment
  • Ability to explain technical processes to individuals with limited understanding of finance and accounting functions
  • Refined negotiation skills

  • Master's degree in accounting, finance or related field or CPA credentials

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic guidance on financial initiatives, including capital expenditures, reserves, contractual agreements, generosity and capital campaign initiatives.
  • Guides the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, providing analysis to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
  • Administers financial controls and fraud prevention; establishes and monitors financial standards and procedures.
  • Leads the annual financial statement audit, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors and ensuring timely preparation of all supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Partners with the Generosity team to ensure compliance with all contributions processing and reporting.
  • Develops, leads and maintains banking, investment and financing relationships and programs.
  • Works with the Executive Director of Operations and Director of Human Resources on insurance and legal matters.
  • Serves as Eagle Brook Church lead on all tax matters.
  • Oversees state and federal compliance matters, including business status.
  • Selects and provides oversight, leadership and training to the Finance team.
  • Supervises the Accounting Manager, Financial Analyst and Finance Project Specialist.
  • Responsible for budget and financial compliance of all budget owners within Eagle Brook Church.
  • Formulates budget by providing input into developing and administrating budget, tracking expenditures and reporting on budget variances.
  • Collaborates with the Property team on space leases, pay applications and insurance for building projects.
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources team on 403(b) and health insurance programs.
  • Proactively looks for opportunities to improve finance programs, practices and procedures and keep management informed of new developments.
