Finance Director

ModaxoMontreal, QC

About The Position

The Director of Finance is responsible for financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, compliance, and corporate governance. This is a senior management position reporting directly to the General Manager, serving as the right hand of the GM on all matters relating to business growth and profitability. The Director of Finance directly oversees a small Finance team, currently including one outside contractor, with extensive hands-on involvement in day-to-day financial operations. The role also involves frequent interaction with all department heads across the organization, as well as regular engagement with Modaxo leadership and portfolio management. Finance is often thought of as an exact science, but this role depends heavily on forward-looking judgment. An accurate forecast depends on reading a range of variables — the likelihood that pipeline deals will close, the organization's own delivery performance, and whether clients will hit their project timelines, among others. Expretio holds itself to a high standard on this front: actuals are expected to land close to quarterly projections, and misses in either direction are treated as a problem to understand and correct. The Director of Finance partners with senior management and functional leads across the organization to align financial strategy with business priorities, ensure bid and contract terms adhere to corporate parameters, and translate financial data into actionable insights for the leadership team. They work closely with all departments to understand the fundamental KPIs of the business and help develop strategies to reach company targets, moving comfortably between hands-on execution and strategic advisory work with a small team. Expretio is a Montreal-based SaaS company specializing in revenue management software for rail and bus operators, operating within the Modaxo portfolio (Constellation Software). The Director of Finance plays a central role in shaping the financial discipline and strategic decision-making that support Expretio's continued growth within this portfolio. For a career-minded finance professional, the role also offers a pathway to broader opportunities across the wider Modaxo and Constellation Software family of companies.
